Your Technology Shouldn't Be the Thing Holding You Back.

Executive technology and operations leadership for growing businesses. No full-time hire required.

Why Hire a Fractional CIO?

Most growing businesses hit a point where technology starts holding them back instead of moving them forward. Maybe it's systems that can't keep up with your growth. Maybe it's decisions being made by people whose real job is something else. Maybe you're just not sure what you don't know.

ROFONIC provides the senior leadership to solve it, without the cost of a full-time hire. Whether you're a 25-person company making your first major technology decision or a 200-person organization that's outgrown your infrastructure, you get 25+ years of executive experience and MIT Sloan-certified expertise working directly on your business.

I've scaled technology for a $400M global manufacturer. I've also helped smaller companies figure out where to start. The approach is the same: understand your situation, focus on what matters most, and execute.

Based in Chicago. Serving businesses nationwide.

Built for Growing Businesses: From 20 Employees to 200+.

I work with small and mid-sized businesses that have outgrown their current technology setup but aren't ready to hire a full-time team. Some come to me with a specific challenge: tools that don't work together, a system migration, or a technology decision they need to get right. Others come because they know something isn't working but can't pinpoint what or where to begin.

Both are exactly the kind of problem I built ROFONIC to solve. I bring the clarity and experience to help you figure out where you are, what needs to change, and how to move forward without the overhead of a full-time hire.

Raphael R. Savastano

Founder and Principal Consultant

Raphael R. Savastano didn't start in IT. Before spending 25+ years leading technology strategy, operations, and transformation for growing businesses, he worked demolition to put himself through school, ran an electronics department at Walmart, created a brand new role at IBM and trained eight people across the country to do it, ran production operations for transit fare cards, and worked as an Audio Engineer at a recording studio during the emergence of digital audio. He came to technology leadership the long way, which is why he approaches it differently. Not advising from the sidelines, but in the seat, accountable for outcomes.

What keeps him in this work is the problem-solving. Not the technology itself, but the gap between what a business intends to do and what it actually needs to do. Closing that gap, aligning action with intent, is what every ROFONIC engagement is built on.

He served as CIO of a global manufacturer, scaling technology and processes to support growth from $60M to over $400M. That work included leading multiple acquisitions, driving ERP implementations, launching a digital commerce channel, and deploying AI solutions across business functions. He holds MIT Sloan certifications in AI, Machine Learning, IoT Strategy, and Business Process Design.

There's a side of his background that doesn't show up on most technology resumes. He studied jazz performance and spent years writing and arranging music, learning to hear how individual parts interact to create something larger. He brings that same ear to his work: listening to how systems, processes, and people interact across an organization, finding where things are out of sync, and bringing them into alignment.

Frequently Asked Questions

A fractional CIO or CTO is a senior technology executive who works with your business on a part-time or project basis rather than as a full-time employee. You get the same strategic leadership, accountability, and decision-making authority without the salary, benefits, and overhead of a full-time hire. For growing businesses that need executive-level guidance but aren't ready to bring someone on permanently, it's a practical way to get the expertise when and where it matters most.

A full-time CIO or CTO typically costs $250,000 to $400,000 or more annually when you factor in salary, benefits, and equity. That makes sense for large enterprises with constant, complex technology demands. But most small and mid-sized businesses don't need, or can't justify, that level of investment. A fractional engagement gives you access to the same caliber of experience at a fraction of the cost, scaled to match your actual needs.

I work with businesses that have outgrown their current technology setup but aren't ready, or don't need, to build a full internal IT leadership team. That might be a company facing its first real technology decision, or one that's scaling faster than its systems can keep up. If your technology decisions are being made by people whose real job is something else, or if you're facing a challenge that needs experienced oversight you don't have in-house, you're likely a good fit. Company size matters less than the gap between where you are and where you need to be.

The range is broad, but common engagements include IT strategy and roadmapping, ERP selection and implementation, cybersecurity assessments, cloud migrations, AI integration, post-merger technology integration, and operational process redesign. Some clients come with a specific project. Others come because they know something isn't working and need help figuring out what.

Every engagement starts with a conversation to understand your situation. From there, we scope the work based on what you actually need, whether that's ongoing fractional leadership, a defined project, or a short-term assessment. There's no one-size-fits-all model. You get flexibility, transparency, and a clear understanding of what you're paying for and what you'll get in return.

No. I work with businesses at every stage, from 20-person teams making their first significant technology investment to 200+ person organizations managing complex IT infrastructure. The size of your company matters less than the gap between where you are and where you need to be. If technology decisions are being made without experienced oversight, I can help.

That's more common than you'd think, and exactly why I start with a free assessment. Most business owners know something isn't working but can't pinpoint what. I'll ask the right questions, identify the real issues, and give you a clear path forward. You don't need to have the answers before we talk.
